End to BP Oil Spill Expected Sunday

It has been over five months since the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig exploded and began pumping millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.  This horrific disaster occurred April 20, killing eleven workers and dumping about 206 million gallons of oil into the ocean.  National Incident Commander, Thad Allen, claims that the relief well is expected to pump cement and mud into the blown-out well by Sunday, September 19, which will finally end this environmental catastrophe.

Though most officials claim that 50% of the oil has dissipated, scientists are now finding think layers of settled oil coating the sea floor.  It has been said that it is now safe to eat fish and swim in the water.  It may seem that the Gulf Coast is recovering quickly from this tragedy, but it isn't.  Fishermen are only producing 20% of their normal production for this time of the year.  The overall reason for this is because demand is down and supply is scarce.  The fact is that this will take a great deal of time and effort to fully restore what the Gulf used to be.
