Volcanic Eruption in Indonesia

Two weeks ago, the very active Mount Merapi sprung into life on the island nation of Indonesia.  Merapi has been known for its eruptions as it has erupted several times previously and has killed about 1400 people in its lifetimes.  This past friday, Merapi experienced its most explosive blast in more than a century making this two week eruption period very significant.  That blast alone took out an entire village, setting it ablaze, forcing residents to flee.  So far 340, 000 people have been evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.  190 people have now been reported dead over the course of the past two weeks and over 600 have been hospitalized due to burn wounds.  The reason you always hear about Indonesia on the news is because of it position on Earth's surface.  It is directly on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and thats why Indonesia is so prone to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
